Of all the government agencies, Nebraska’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) oversees some of the more critical services for those in need. Low-income families can go to the DHHS to apply for financial assistance in paying for health care coverage, child care and food.


Below is a list of some of the services provided by the DHHS:

*Medicaid and Medicare are two different programs. Medicaid is operated by the state and available to anyone who meet set income limits. Medicare is run by the federal government, and is available to people 65-and-older or who have specific disabilities and conditions.
